MEET EDDIE AND MAXINE

New Leadership Will Deliver Results for Our School District

A community leader with a profound commitment to educational excellence, Maxine Angel is running for the Teaneck Board of Education to ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive. With a clear vision for the future, she is determined to make Teaneck Public Schools a model of accountability, community partnership, and academic achievement.

Maxine’s extensive and varied background has equipped her with a unique skill set to serve the Teaneck community. Her career began in public service as a drug treatment counselor for Alachua County's innovative Day Reporting Program, which provided alternatives to incarceration and helped individuals rebuild their lives. This experience honed her ability to work with diverse populations and find effective solutions to complex challenges.

She later transitioned to the corporate sector, serving as an International Trainer for a global skincare company. In this role, Maxine developed and implemented comprehensive training programs, managed key sales relationships, collaborated with diverse teams, and demonstrated her exceptional communication skills.

For the past several years, Maxine has dedicated herself to her family as a full-time homemaker, a role that has deepened her understanding of the educational needs of children. She and her husband, Rabbi Hayyim Angel, have had the privilege of homeschooling their four children, giving her direct insight into curriculum and student development as well as a deep appreciation and respect for all that classroom teachers accomplish.

A passionate and energetic volunteer, Maxine actively seeks opportunities to strengthen her community. Her service on the Teaneck Youth Advisory Board (YAB) has been a particularly meaningful experience, allowing her to connect with a diverse group of residents and empower local teens to engage in civic life. This role has solidified her appreciation for the immense potential within Teaneck.

For the past several years, Maxine has been attending the Teaneck Board of Education meetings to learn about the district and the successes it celebrates as well as the challenges it aims to overcome. This has given her insight into how the district operates, the history of the schools, and a belief that the Teaneck Public Schools can be among the best in New Jersey.

Maxine is a firm believer in the power of youth sports to build character, confidence, and perseverance. As a proud graduate of the University of Florida Honors Program with a degree in psychology and the beneficiary of an excellent K-12 public school education herself, she knows firsthand the importance of high-quality schooling in shaping future opportunities.

Maxine Angel is ready to bring her collaborative spirit, professional experience, and unwavering dedication to the Teaneck Board of Education. She is excited to work with her running mate, Eddie Laners III, and fellow trustees to build a brighter future for all of Teaneck's students.

Eddie Laners III is a dedicated legal professional, community advocate, and principled leader committed to ensuring Teaneck’s schools provide the highest quality education while remaining fiscally responsible and transparent. With experience spanning law, business, and public service, Eddie brings a results-driven approach to the Board of Education, focused on academic excellence, parental involvement, and responsible budgeting.

Eddie is a proud African American leader and a two-year member of the Black-Jewish Entertainment Alliance (BJEA), with a longstanding commitment to civic engagement and policy advocacy. While pursuing his political science degree at Montclair State University, he attended legislative sessions at the New Jersey State Capitol, engaging with state lawmakers and observing critical policy debates firsthand. Eddie also interned for Congressman Donald Payne Jr., where he learned about the legislative process, economic policy, and community development. His dedication to economic justice was further deepened after participating in a national roundtable with then Vice President Joe Biden on raising the minimum wage, an experience that solidified his belief in economic empowerment through responsible, inclusive governance.

Eddie and his family are Teaneck natives. His wife is a proud graduate of the Teaneck Public Schools, and together they have raised their children in the community, one a Teaneck High School graduate, another currently attending THS, and their youngest, just a year old, who they look forward to enrolling in TPS in the future. Since moving to Teaneck in 2014, Eddie has embraced the town as home. A proud graduate of public schools himself, Eddie went on to earn his degree from Montclair State University. Committed to giving back, he has been actively involved in youth sports, coaching Teaneck Highwaymen flag football in 2020 and serving as an assistant coach for TJB Basketball at the Rodda Center from 2021 to 2022, always with a focus on building confidence, teamwork, and community among local youth.

Beyond his work in education and advocacy, Eddie has also served as a poll worker for four consecutive elections, ensuring fair and transparent elections. He has business experience as a current minority shareholder in Kudo Society, a local bakery, and holds professional credentials as a registered Notary Public and former member of the NJ Realtors Board.

For five years, Eddie worked as a direct care professional supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, an experience that deepened his appreciation for inclusion, dignity, and the vital role of tailored support in helping every individual reach their potential. He later spent many years as a Senior Paralegal, where he gained extensive experience across a range of legal areas. Among his most meaningful work was advocating for families who had lost loved ones to mesothelioma, a role that reinforced his commitment to justice and compassionate advocacy. In a previous role, he worked closely with individuals with developmental disabilities, ensuring they could participate fully in specialized programs. This experience deepened his understanding of the unique needs of students with special needs and strengthened his commitment to creating inclusive opportunities for all.

Today, Eddie serves as a paralegal at the New Jersey Board of Nursing within the Division of Consumer Affairs. In this role, he conducts legal research, drafts communications and legal memoranda, and assists in licensure decision-making, ensuring close coordination with board leadership and deputy attorneys general. Eddie’s legal expertise, meticulous attention to detail, and deep-rooted sense of justice shape a leadership style centered on accountability, fairness, and practical problem-solving, qualities he is eager to bring to the Board of Education.

Eddie’s vision for the Teaneck Board of Education is clear:

Academic Excellence – Ensuring a rigorous curriculum that prioritizes literacy, math proficiency, and career-readiness, while expanding vocational training and STEM opportunities.
Parental Input & Involvement – Advocating for greater transparency in school decisions, curriculum choices, and parental input in policy matters.
Fiscal Responsibility – Pushing for efficient budgeting that directs funds to the classroom rather than bureaucracy, while exploring innovative funding models that don’t increase local taxes.
Technology & Innovation – Preparing students for the future by integrating practical technological education, including artificial intelligence, financial literacy, and responsible engagement with emerging markets like cryptocurrency.

Eddie believes that Teaneck’s schools must serve all students while upholding values of fairness, accountability, and respect for taxpayers. His leadership will ensure that education remains a top priority, with a focus on academic achievement, responsible spending, and community engagement.

Eddie Laners III is ready to bring his experience, dedication, and fresh ideas to the Teaneck Board of Education, fighting for students, parents, and the future of our schools.
